Built Environment Evolution client building: Colorado State Capitol Building

Built Environment Evolution has been fortunate to partner with several teams at the Colorado Capitol for various stages of the long-term restoration. BEE oversaw the conditions assessment and materials testing for the restoration of the decorative paint, decorative plaster, and metalwork found in both the Senate and House Chambers at the Colorado Capitol. Additional testing and recommendations were made for the secondary spaces, including meeting rooms both in the Capitol and in the Legislative Services Building. Exterior windows assessment and paint analysis will be completed in 2016.

The Minnesota Statehouse has a Georgia marble exterior, a marble commonly used in architecture around the US. Areas with various degrees of deterioration are found throughout the exterior of the building, with patterns that do not strictly match the typical environmental causes. Built Environment Evolution conducted the first phase of a Marble Study using the Portable XRF Spectrometer. Areas of deterioration could be identified by the elemental make up, allowing the team to identify areas susceptible to deterioration in the newly quarried stone. With the data accumulated,  in kind replacements can be selected for site specific resistance to  deterioration.

BUILT ENVIRONMENT EVOLUTION CLIENT site: Pecos National Historical Park

Pecos National Historic Park is a site where Plains and Pueblo Indians lived, Conquistadors and Missionaries built, where stagecoaches stopped on the Santa Fe Trail, where ranchers grazed cattle. Adobe brick was the material of choice, and Built Environment Evolution conducted a study to identify periods of construction, repairs, and reuse by elemental analysis of the brick, both at various site locations and in the archives.
